I hope to better understand how learning occurs and improve our practices, with research and collaboration, to meet the growing needs of students especially within mathematical learning. Interventions that would be created in collaboration with teachers and researchers that could aid math teachers, like my father who has been a math teacher for thirty years.”

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Holden graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a certificate in Education & Educational Sciences.

Holden’s passion for innovative and embodied education grew since joining the Cognitive Development & Communication Lab under Dr. Martha Alibali as well as the MAGIC Lab under Dr. Mitchell Nathan. During his undergraduate research assistantships, he participated in cognitive and educational psychology research projects focused on mathematical cognition and one’s transfer of learning. During this time, Holden had the opportunity to present co-authored research findings examining predictors of arithmetic fluency at the Spring 2022 Cognitive Development Society (CDS) conference in Madison, WI.

NEXT-GEN MATH LEARNING

The culmination of Holden’s educational and research experience has served to solidify his desire to pursue higher education. In the learning analytics program, Holden hopes to expand his background in both qualitative and quantitative research and to one day work in educational research focused within mathematical learning/curriculum development utilizing grounded and embodied learning techniques.
