“I was drawn to this Learning Analytics program because it has an emphasis on both interpreting data and communicating it effectively. I have a strong passion for working with teachers to help them obtain student data, learn how to decipher it, and use it to make instructional decisions.”

MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH TEACHER

Anna is a middle school math teacher in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Her goal is to make math an engaging subject for learners of all levels. She implements teaching methods that value real-life application and emphasize critical thinking skills. Additionally, she leads the middle school student government. This has created opportunities for her to teach important leadership skills and build relationships outside of the classroom. Anna received her Bachelor of Science in Middle School Math Education from Bob Jones University.

MAKING MATH ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL LEARNERS

One of Anna’s focuses as a teacher is finding ways to improve math education to reach low-achieving students. She has served on a curriculum planning committee at her K-12 school that focused on vertical alignment of math instruction between all grade levels so students could continue to receive the support they need year after year. Anna has also implemented programs designed to target middle school students that are falling behind. One of these initiatives is a math intervention course that emphasizes small group instruction and individual skill remediation. She also directs summer math camps that are designed to reduce the summer learning loss that often disproportionally affects struggling learners.
