“I strive to be involved in a community of supportive individuals who are just as passionate about educational research and reform as I am and I believe I will find that here at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Learning analytics has the potential to make significant impacts by providing the knowledge needed to make productive, effective decisions and I am very excited to be involved in the movement toward a more equitable education system for all.”
RESEARCH ASSISTANT & COORDINATOR AT THE DISCOVERY CENTER FOR EVALUATION, RESEARCH, AND PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Kate works as a Research Assistant at the Discovery Center for Evaluation, Research, and Professional Learning, Ohio’s only comprehensive center for research and evaluation in science, mathematics, technology, computer science, and engineering education, dedicated to collaboration, advocacy, and strategic innovation. In this role, Kate supports the center research staff in the evaluation of over 30 STEM education programs around the United States. This allows her to exercise her interests in learning analytics and educational evaluation in the field of education that she was involved in as a K-12 and undergraduate student. Kate holds a BA in Psychology and a BS in Biology from Miami University where she graduated Cum Laude, with honors in Psychology and honors with distinction from the University Honors College.
FOSTERING STRONG RELATIONSHIPS TO PROMOTE EDUCATIONAL EQUITY
Through her experience as an Americorps Change Agent at EDGE Teen Center, a Teach for America IGNITE Fellow, and a volunteer at 4-H Camp Whitewood, Kate has had the opportunity to work with diverse groups of students, teachers, and community members that believe in student success. She believes that forming strong relationships within these groups and advocating for their communicated needs is the key to championing educational equity that is well-informed and sustainable. Kate is very passionate about eliminating racial disparities in educational achievement and plans to pursue this area of research throughout the Learning Analytics program and in her future career.
