“I eagerly enrolled in the Educational Psychology: Learning Analytics program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison driven by my dual passions for education and data. As an educator deeply immersed in the classroom, I recognize the critical role that data plays in understanding student learning and optimizing educational outcomes. My fascination with data stems from its power to unveil insights, identify patterns, and inform evidence-based decision-making. In today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, the ability to harness data effectively is indispensable. I believe that by mastering the skills to collect, analyze, and interpret educational data, I can contribute meaningfully to enhancing the effectiveness and equity of our education system. The Learning Analytics program offers me the perfect platform to delve deeper into this intersection of education and data, empowering me to make informed interventions and drive positive change in teaching and learning practices.”

FROM THE UNIFORM TO THE CLASSROOM

Instead of attending college right away, Cassie Geary joined the United States Air Force. She deployed twice to combat areas while she was in the military. After her second deployment, Cassie worked as an Engineer Tech for two years in Rice Lake, WI. Cassie decided to go back to school to become a teacher. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, she started working as a Special Education teacher at West Salem Elementary. The position was not renewed due to enrollment. The following school year, Cassie found herself at Blair-Taylor School District. At Blair-Taylor, she has been a Special Education teacher, History teacher, Digital Literacy teacher, Volleyball Coach, and Alternative Education Teacher/Coordinator.

GIVING STUDENTS A SAFE SPACE TO THRIVE

Cassie’s passion for helping others has driven her to the career she has now as a teacher. Her ability to build relationships with students and staff has helped her students feel comfortable and cared for. Cassie’s superpower is being able to teach the students who are deemed “unteachable.” Her philosophy is, “you can’t expect a car to run without putting gas in the tank. Students are similar. They can’t learn if they are hungry, mentally not at school, or do not feel safe. Find them a space that they can feel full, focus on their work, and feel safe. Students will learn or be willing to learn if you give them that space.” Cassie has given her students that space.
