“I joined the program to ensure bilingual students and those with language-based learning disabilities are represented in data. With my experience and passion for equity, my goal is to bridge educational research, data science, and advocacy to create inclusive, evidence-based practices that reflect and support all learners, especially those often overlooked.”

TRANSFORMING LIVES THROUGH LITERACY

Sylvia Gonzalez is a Certified Academic Language Therapist who works with children and adults with language-based learning disabilities, specifically dyslexia and dysgraphia. Sylvia’s approach combines structured literacy methods with a deep understanding of each learner’s individual needs. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and an Academic Language Therapy Certificate from Southern Methodist University.

BRINGING KNOWLEDGE, BUILDING FUTURES

Sylvia Gonzalez channels her passion for educational equity through RGV Reading Brain, the organization she founded to raise dyslexia awareness in her community. She leads online and in-person seminars and presents at conferences to help parents and educators understand and support students with dyslexia. Her work bridges personal experience, professional training, and technology to reach underrepresented communities and ensure all learners receive the support they need. She’s always finding ways to bring dyslexia awareness into conversations so be prepared to let her know if you want the friendly chat or the full seminar!
