“I joined the Learning Analytics program at UW-Madison to better serve my students. My goal as an educator is to create an optimal learning environment for students to be successful. By continuing my own learning and expanding my own knowledge, I can be a stronger advocate and create change beyond my classroom walls.”

EDUCATOR IN HIGH SCHOOL MATHEMATICS

Casi Kirkpatrick is a secondary mathematics educator with Racine Unified. Her primary focus is Algebra 1, ensuring students have a strong foundation of mathematics concepts necessary in the high school classroom and beyond. She uses current teaching practices and strives to support all types of student learners. Her data-driven instruction ensures her students are exposed to appropriate, grade-level content while being mindful of each students’ individual abilities. Real-world application and interdisciplinary connections bring mathematics content to life and fosters student success. Her devotion to education came to fruition at UW-Green Bay, where she graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Mathematics and a minor in Secondary Education.

CONNECTING WITH STUDENTS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Casi is passionate about working with students and teaching them beyond the scope of mathematics. She is an advisor to Student Government, helping develop young leaders and promote a positive school culture and climate. She works with her students to understand the importance of community, whether on a broad scale with events such as their annual Food Drive or Penny Wars, or a smaller scale with grade and school wide activities such as dances, field days, and fundraisers school needs. She is a member of her school’s Leadership Committee, Data Team, and a district-wide Grading Practices committee, all which focus on cultivating a better educational experience for students. She strives to be a clear example to her students on the importance of being involved, pushing yourself to try new things, and using your voice to advocate for what is right.
