“I hope to gain both theoretical and practical training in learning science through this program, with a particular focus on data-driven approaches to understanding youth’s learning and development. My goal is to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to enhance the museum’s support for children from ethnic minority backgrounds.”
MUSEUM PROFESSIONAL SPECIALIZING IN PUBLIC EDUCATION AND ENGAGEMENT
Lin earned her master’s degree in museology in the Netherlands and has museum working experience in both China (Zhejiang Provincial Museum) and America. Lin has rich experience in museum education, event planning, and public engagement. After moving to Chicago, Lin worked at the Chinese American Museum of Chicago and organized lots of museum events on topics such as the Chinese diaspora in North America, the struggles of American-born Chinese, and intergenerational conflicts within Chinese immigrant families.
RESEARCHER IN IMMIGRANT FAMILIES AND ETHNIC IDENTITY
Lin is deeply interested in Chinese Americans’ ethnic identity, racialized experiences, and psychological well-being. A highlight of Lin’s academic journey was an independent study on Chinese views of heritage repatriation and decolonization, leading to publications and international presentations. At Northwestern University’s Culture, Brain, and Human Development Lab, Lin contributed to a study on the biopsychosocial well-being of Chinese American youth. At the Chinese American Museum of Chicago, Lin explored how ethnic identity shapes museum expectations. Looking ahead, Lin aims to blend cultural psychology with learning analytics to better understand and address the educational challenges facing Chinese American youth and families.
