“I joined the Learning Analytics program at UW-Madison because I’m focused on both adult learning and utilizing innovative, data-informed methods to improve employee retention and engagement outcomes. My love of data is directly connected to the fact that behind every data point is a person. Data is often portrayed as a way to disconnect from the individual and remove nuance from a story. I see the opposite – data is a way to reconnect with the true sentiments of the people.”
ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS AT CORE & MAIN
Melanie earned her BA in Leadership and Organizational Behavior at Saint Louis University, where she graduated Cum Laude, and immediately used that knowledge to enter the world of adult education through corporate training and leadership development. She found the perfect opportunity to blend her knowledge of adult learning and passion for data storytelling in her current role as an Organizational Effectiveness Specialist at Core & Main, a specialized distributor of waterworks and fire protection products. In addition to her degree, she holds a certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace from the University of South Florida and is trained in DISC Assessment methods.
LINKING PEOPLE TO THEIR NEEDS & TELLING STORIES THROUGH DATA
Melanie is dedicated to helping everyone—from non profit leaders to community members to corporate stakeholders—connect the dots by creating a rich narrative that’s not just data-informed but also one in which the stats are accessible, and the story told is engaging and provides context. She uses this approach to help develop leaders and guide them to understanding the importance of their role in employee engagement, growth and development.
