I make sure that even in a part-time online masters, our students are connected to each other, the teaching teams, and our university.”

FOUNDING DIRECTOR FOR LEARNING ANALYTICS

Dr. Rutledge serves as the founding director for the online Learning Analytics program, working alongside faculty and staff to develop and produce the 8-course curriculum and managing a team of instructors and teaching assistants to support students. She teaches the first course in the curriculum and holds the role of graduate student advisor. Her professional background is in small business continuing education, having worked at the Small Business Development Center at UW-Milwaukee and in the Office of Corporate and Professional Education at University of San Diego. She holds a MS and PhD in Educational Psychology from University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Learning Sciences program area and earned her BA in Education – Extended English from the University of Arizona, where she graduated magna cum laude and with honors.

CONNECTING STUDENTS AND STRATEGY

Julia works with prospective students who are considering the learning analytics field and supports current students with access to resources including career development, software trainings, professional development webinars, job opportunities, and more. She is passionate about using data to drive equitable decisions in education and looks to connect members in the learning analytics field with folks in other areas including educational technologies, higher education administration, K-12 learning, corporate training, and instructional design. She is in constant pursuit of new pedagogical techniques for online learning environments and is building her personal list of favorite ice breakers for Zoom meetings. Her academic research interests include measuring social and emotional learning and personalized learning environments.
